How much does a crown cost in san diego?
This is probably the most common question we get from patients, so let’s talk about that for a bit…
The price of a crown can vary depending on a number of factors. Your dental benefits, type of materials used, and turnaround time can affect the final price. According to Fair Health Consumer, a third party reference for healthcare prices, the out-of-pocket post for a crown in the 92121 zip code is $1,425. If you have dental benefits, we typically see contracted prices for basic porcelain crowns (D2740) in the $700-850 range.
At Dental Design SD, we typically place two types of crowns, but may choose to work with other materials depending on tooth number, aesthetic considerations, and what your benefits allow.
CEREC – Chairside CAD/CAM Ceramic Crowns
Using CAD/CAM technology coupled to an onsite milling machine, we have the ability to design and deliver ceramic crowns in one visit. From start to finish, the average wait time can be approximately 2 hours. The materials used for ceramic crowns typically wear the same as natural teeth, and have shown durability beyond 5 years.
Zirconia Porcelain Crowns
This is our preferred crown of choice due to its durability and bond strength. Zirconia is the hardest known ceramic in the industry, and we have a fun video of Dr. Agatep trying to (unsuccessfully) shatter one with a hammer. When choosing Zirconia, we typically will provide you with a temporary crown, and send your impression to a local lab for the crown fabrication. Typical turnaround time is 5-8 days.
