How Dental Insurance Works

Contrary to popular belief, dental insurance isn’t actually “insurance”, it is a discount benefit plan that has been negotiated by your employer with one of the major insurance carriers. Unlike medical plans that have an out-of-pocket maximum and covers unpredictable events, dental coverage focuses much more on preventative care such as teeth cleanings and exams, and will have a cap on annual coverage, which usually is $1500-$2000. Similar to vision insurance that covers exams, but gives you a discount on frames and lenses; dental insurance will usually cover up to 100% for 2 cleanings and 2 exams, and give you a discount on restorative treatment.

    • 1 set of X-rays

    • Cosmetic procedures (whitening, veneers, bonding)

    • Dental Implants

    • Pinhole Surgery

    • TMJ Treatment

What are my options if I don’t have dental insurance?

Dental Design SD offers an in-house benefits plan that is similar to dental insurance benefits. We understand that small business owners may not have access to group dental insurance plans, or perhaps you did the math and realized that the exclusions and $1500 maximum isn’t worth the monthly premium. For patients without group dental insurance, we offer an in-house discount plan that includes your cleanings, x-rays, and exams AND gives you a generous discount on any treatment you might need.
