Dental examinations are a critical part of maintaining your oral hygiene. Whether you're a baby or a senior citizen, Dental Design SD strongly recommends getting regular dental examinations. Understanding the benefits of a routine dental examination and what our dental examinations entail can help you get the care your teeth need to stay strong and healthy.
Dental examinations benefit patients in many ways, including:
Improved appearance. Your dentist will polish and whiten your teeth at your regular dental examinations.
Self-confidence. Dental cleaning can help improve your self-confidence, by ensuring that your teeth and smile look their best.
Improved breath. Periodontal disease can lead to chronic bad breath in some patients. Getting regular dental examinations can help fix this problem, which can even help improve social relationships for the patient.
Physical comfort. Dental disease is uncomfortable, so prevention of dental disease can increase your physical comfort, especially while eating and drinking.
During our twice-yearly dental examinations, we do the following:
Check for signs of dental trouble. We'll inspect your jaw, teeth and gums for signs of dental trouble. This helps us treat any periodontal disease before it becomes advanced, which can save your teeth and preserve the bone mass in your jaw. This also helps us identify any cavities that need to be filled.
Take dental X-rays. Not all patients need dental X-rays at every dental exam appointment. We'll let you know when you need dental X-rays, so you won't have to get them any more frequently than necessary.
Perform tooth cleaning. After examining your teeth and taking dental X-rays, we'll clean your teeth to remove plaque, then we'll polish your teeth. Getting your teeth cleaned will help prevent periodontal disease. In addition, getting your teeth regularly polished will keep your teeth cleaner for longer, because food is less likely to stick to polished teeth.
Make recommendations for future treatment. Sometimes during our dental examinations we discover procedures that need to be done in order to protect your oral hygiene and dental health. After your dental cleaning and examination, we'll talk to you about our recommendations for future treatment. If we can find no additional procedures that need to be done for the sake of your dental health, we'll tell you when you should make your next appointment, so you'll know when it's right to come back.
